When I was growing up my parents took me to a talk given by Thomas Bopp, discoverer of the Hale-Bopp comet, in his presentation he showed the iconic Hubble image of the Pillars of Creation. I remember being stunned by the scale when he shined a laser pointer on to the giant projector screen and said our solar system is smaller than the red dot of the laser. Many years later I am still inspired by that image, enough to try my hand at painting, I just love the colors and the structure of the gas and dust clouds.
