About the Artist
I grew up on a small farm in Connecticut, surrounded by cows and weathered old farm equipment. My mother, a graphic designer, encouraged my artistic development. I fondly recall tinkering with Kid Pix Studio and Photoshop during my formative years. After earning my bachelor’s degree in Illustration from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2015, I moved to Michigan to pursue a career in the automotive design industry.
In search of an escape from the sometimes technical requirements of my day job, I joined a local sketch group. Our cozy coffee shop sessions provided the perfect outlet for my creative endeavors. Armed with a small Moleskine sketchbook and a compact kit of pencils, ink, and seldom-used watercolors, I’d sketch and paint, making the most of the limited space.
At the dawn of 2022, I made a pivotal change in my artistic toolkit. After years of primarily using sumi ink, I decided to explore gouache. The monotony of straight black ink had worn thin, and I craved color—something to inject vibrancy into my work. I enjoy the versatility of the medium, striking a nice balance between the fluidity of watercolor and the directness of acrylic.
Landscapes have always been my sanctuary, stemming from an early inspiration of movie matte painters and video game environment concept artists. These scenes, captured within the pages of my sketchbook, transport me. Some are places I long to visit; others are born from memories of actual visits. I also explore whatever intrigues me: cool compositions, captivating lighting, and challenging scenarios.
Over the past few years, I’ve amassed quite a collection of paintings, completing about one painting every two weeks on average. These pieces, born from my passion and creativity, have been hidden away in stacks of sketchbooks. But now, I’ve decided to give them a chance to shine. I’ve opened this store where my art can find its audience, no longer confined to the pages of my sketchbook. It’s an exciting step, and I hope my work resonates with those who appreciate the beauty between the natural world and our human-made environment, as well as the magic of color.
